12 Mar For Those Who Like to Count Calories
There is a huge misconception of two things. First, that low-calorie foods are better for you. Second, that labels are required to tell you the truth. This video highlights the inaccuracy of the information on many common foods. As you will see, items labeled as “healthy” may be far from it. Here’s a little food for thought: the foods that are best for you, have no nutrition labels at all and can be found at your local farm or farmers market. Don’t know where they are in your hood? Go check out Local Harvest or head to the produce isle of your supermarket. And here’s a another bonus tip: stay away from anything boasting big claims on labels such as fat-free, sugar-free, etc…
Just last week I did an experiment with a group of children. I had them read the back of a very-popular reduced fat peanut butter label and had them compare it to a jar of almond butter. You’d be shocked at the ingredients listed. I urge you to take a look during your next shopping trip. And you’re welcome in advance 😉
