21 Sep My 4th REBIRTHday and Related Blessings

foh

On September 19, 2012, I celebrated my 4th REBIRTHday. For me, the term ‘REBIRTHday’ simply means the day I was given a chance to start over. 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and spent the next 9 months undergoing treatment. 9 months is also the time I spent in my mother’s belly. The first time she nurtured me, but the second time around, I got to nurture myself. You see, while I was going through this process, I took the time to reflect, correct and then align the things that were out of balance. Once I completed treatment, I acquired knowledge, got trained and am now teaching others. You can’t just dream about change, you have to be active about the change you wish to see. Like the African proverb says, “When you pray, move your feet.”

I have been a little quiet these days, mostly because I have been reflecting a lot, perhaps too much. I’ve been thinking about losing my friends Vivian and little Jordan. And also thinking about all the friends I’ve gained… too numerous to list. I feel like 4 years later, I’m in a really good place. I continue to attract all the right people and situations into my life. In the last two weeks, I’ve spoken to young moms about the power of self-care and nutrition, I am one of ten subjects in a highly publicized exhibit that was not only beautifully presented but it also made the NY Daily News. This weekend an accompanying book by the same title with our stories is making it’s debut. And on my cancerversary, my husband wrote about what the journey has been for him and how grateful he is that we have each other. This post had me reflect on all the losses I’ve had in my life but also reminded me of how far I’ve come. While I miss many of those things from my past, I’m so excited about the future and what it holds (and celebrating many more REBIRTHdays). So with that said, please know that you don’t have to face death, in order to own your power.
